Hair Slide

Good day, friends,

This project is not exactly steampunk, but it kind of fits the fashion. As it was a Christmas present for my sister, I shied away from gear patterns and the like, as it is not her thing. However, it is still worth showing, in my opinion, so here it is:

Salutations!

Dear Sirs and Madams:

It may be of interest to you that I am starting this journal to log the material projects I create in my pursuit of steampunk perfection.

Steampunk is defined as follows:

A subgenre of speculative science fiction set in an anachronistic 19th century society.
     en.wiktionary.org

In basic terms, steampunk embodies an ideal of culture based on Victorian styles, but with an evolved state of technology based around the use of steam as a propulsive medium.

Although steam is the ideal medium of power, the steampunk society often uses alternate forms of energy for ease of use. Steampunk utilizes a lot of brass, leather, and wood in its art; this also allows everyday items to be 'steampunked', or made to look fitting in a Victorianesque setting.

In my pursuits, I will strive for functionality over novelty and perhaps appearance; that is, where some may prefer to make a piece using gears attached simply for show, I will make those gears perform some action.

I hope you will enjoy my exploits as much as I intend to.

Signed,

Peter Koby
